I truly cannot give a straightforward explanation for why I paint the compositions presented here, for why I choose these specific colors. For me, the creative process starts when something grabs and maintains my attention. The compositions in “In the Light” come from memories of being in nature. My intention is not to represent at the subject matter, but rather to recreate it in the way that I saw it. The optical illusion of light and darkness does not apply here; instead I need to paint flat areas where color almost becomes the subject matter itself. In this way, I draw from Fauvism, an art form that I love and admire .
